Find the rower that fits the way you train.
Ready to Find Your Rower?
No — they're two different approaches to the same goal. The R50 Pro is a pure air resistance rower: the authentic, traditional wind feel, done right and priced fairly. The R60N is an air + magnetic hybrid: it keeps air's natural feel at lower levels, then adds magnetic resistance to solve problems that pure air can't — noise at high intensity, resistance ceiling, battery dependency, and stability under heavy use. Choose based on which pain points matter to you, not on ''premium vs. basic.''
Five real ones:
1) Noise — 60-73 dB fan whoosh at high intensity; R60N's magnetic assist brings it down to 43-51 dB, apartment-friendly.
2) Resistance ceiling — pure air maxes out around ~110 lbs at damper 10; R60N reaches 900N (45% more), so heavy pulls and HIIT have a real top-end.
3) Battery anxiety — PM5 screens need D-cell batteries that die mid-session; R60N is self-powered (your rowing generates electricity), AA backup only.
4) Stability — 350 lbs capacity and light frames wobble under heavy use; R60N: 500 lbs, commercial-grade steel, one-piece rail, zero wobble.
5) Resistance curve limitation — air only gives "pull harder = more resistance" with no way to set a steady level; R60N adds 12 magnetic levels for precise intensity control, rehab starts, and steady-state training.
On levels 1–7, resistance comes purely from the air flywheel — the harder you pull, the more resistance you get, just like any traditional air rower. On levels 8–10, magnetic resistance kicks in to add extra load and smoother control, delivering up to 900N of peak resistance. This means the R60N preserves the authentic air feel where it matters, and adds magnetic precision where air alone falls short.
Because they want pure air resistance — nothing else. Some rowers love the direct, unmediated connection between their pull and the flywheel. They accept air's trade-offs (noise at high intensity, battery-powered display, 350 lbs cap) because those issues don't affect their training reality. And at $559.99, the R50 Pro delivers a genuine Concept2-caliber air experience at roughly half the price. It's the right choice if "pure air, great value" is your priority.
The R60N. With 500 lbs (227 kg) capacity, one-piece aluminum rail, I-beam roller grooves, and widened rear stabilizer, it's engineered specifically for heavier users and high-intensity pulls. The R50 Pro supports up to 350 lbs — adequate for most users, but not designed for the same level of heavy-duty punishment.
